WooCommerce Product Category not restricted
—
by
Hi!
Thanks for taking the time to read my post. I’ve just purchased the Restricted Categories extension for Groups and am having some trouble with the setup.
After watching your video and going through the support documentation found here: http://docs.itthinx.com/document/groups-restrict-categories/restricting-categories/ it appears I’ve hit a snag.
I created a group “Premium”, and a new WooCommerce Product Category “Premium”. I’ve added several existing products to that category. I created myself a test user and assigned him the group “Premium”.
However, when I log in with the restricted test user account, I am still able to see all products in all categories! I was under the impression that my existing ‘Shop’ page (for example) would now show only those products within the “Premium” category to a user in the “Premium” group.
Could you help me identify what I’m missing? Thanks!

Possibly helpful update –
I’ve been poking around with items in the Product Category and uncovered the following issue:
Logged in on a separate browser with ‘userP’ account the following is true for itemA
itemA is in ‘Premium’ category and can be seen – expected
itemA is in no product category and can be seen – expected
itemA is in ‘Standard Catalog’ category and can not been seen – expected
itemA is in both ‘Premium’ and ‘Standard Catalog’ category and can not be seen – not expected! Shouldn’t item’s presence in ‘Premium’ category allow it to be visible to ‘userp’?
Now, if I go into wordpress users management and add userP into ‘Standard Catalog’ group (meaning userP now resides in groups ‘Registered’, ‘Premium’ and ‘Standard Catalog’), userP can now see all 74 items in the shop.
This does not seem correct and I’m hoping you can help me track down why.
Hi Justin,
The logical condition is AND, so if a category is restricted to two groups, then the user needs to be in both groups.
You could do it using the capabilities or creating a third category ‘PremiumStandard’.

Hi Antonio,
Perhaps I haven’t explained myself very well.
I’ve got two groups created: Standard Catalog and Premium. They are each connected to a WooCommerce Product Category of the same name.
Product Category ‘Premium’ has 10 items in it which should be viewable only by the group “Premium”
Product Category ‘Standard Catalog’ has 74 items in it, including the 10 ‘Premium’ items, which should be viewable to the group ‘Standard Catalog’. I do have “Product Category” enabled in the Taxonomies Settings of your plugin.
I have two test accounts, ‘userP’ who is in the user groups ‘Premium’ and Registered. He can not see any items at all. Test account ‘userSC’ in group ‘Standard Catalog’ can see 64 items.
Anything you can do to help would be awesome. Thanks again!

Hi Justin,
Sorry, I’m lost. If your ‘test’ user is in ‘Premium’ group, then he can see this category and the other not restricted categories.
Remember that you restrict categories by Groups, so in your case only users in ‘Premium’ group will see this category.
Kind Regards,
Antonio B.
