Woocommerce: issues with multiple categories/groups

Hello,

My client is facing an issue with this plugin and their online store.

They have certain products that are assigned to specific product categories which have the same corresponding group assigned, i.e a product category called ‘Pants’ has a group ‘Pants’ assigned to it. Users are then assigned to the ‘Pants’ group so they only have access to certain products. The plugin works fine in this instance, they can see all products under the ‘Pants’ category.

The issue is when a product is assigned to multiple product categories (and each one of those categories has its own restricted group). Users can ONLY see products of categories which only have one group assigned. If a product has multiple groups, the products with multiple categories/groups do not display.

Just wondering if anyone else has come across this and is there any fixes or ways around this?

  1. Hi Greg,

Many thanks for using our content restriction tools on your site.
The reason you notice this behaviour is normal because since each category is restricted to a group, then a user that wishes to visit a product belonging to more than one category, needs to be a member of all the groups involved because there are more than one restrictions for the product in this case. If you add the user to all the groups that are currently restricting the categories aka the product, then the user will be able to view the restricted content.

On the other hand, if the user was able to view a product belonging to two different restricted categories by being a member to only one of these groups, then the content restriction management would have a flaw.

    Kind regards,
    George
