Why Direct Refferals Option?

I’m loving the plugin. Great work!

I’m using Affiliates Woo Commerce

In Affiliates > Options

There is an option to enable Direct Referrals. The tip says “If this option is enabled, whenever a referral is suggested and no affiliate is attributable to it, the referral will be attributed to Direct.”

Can you give me a use case as to why I would want to enable this?

Why not just leave it unchecked? Then there are affiliate sales or non affiliate sales? Simple.

But I know you have a good reason for this option. I just don’t understand what it is.

Thanks,

Chris

  1. That’s very helpful perspective. Thank you Kento!

  2. Hi Chris,

Great to hear you like it 🙂

Regarding the Direct affiliate, it can be used to measure the performance of sales obtained directly through the site against those coming through affiliates. You can set the referral rate for this affiliate to 0 so it doesn’t get reflected in the totals.

Another case would be that you reserve part of the revenue and distribute it among partners or affiliates in equal parts. The accumulated total for the Direct affiliate would be useful for that. Obviously you wouldn’t have the rate set to zero in this case.

So the most common use cases would be those where you use it for benchmarking or some form of (internal) revenue sharing, it can also be used to reflect part of the cost of your own marketing, although I would rather use a specific affiliate entry for each campaign.

I’ll leave this topic open in case there are questions or ideas related.
