How do I set it up so that upon checkout of specific product, user becomes an affiliate automatically? Do I need a separate checkout for the specific products that are for Affiliates only?

    We used both code snippets and they worked separately from each other but not together. Can you give my any more guidance on this?

    With this code, the customer is joined to the affiliates program when the order is created.
    This post explains how to check if a product is on an order. You could use this for customize the code.
