Referrals Not Registering

I’m not sure what’s happening, but referrals are not registering for affiliates. Everything is being credited to direct. Does the ?affiliates=## need to be on every link for it to register a referral? I am using Woocommerce addon and I thought it was done correctly. HELP!

Thank you for testing. I did get it to properly register a referral.

  3. Hi there,

Perhaps there is an issue with your browser but there are several alternative browsers for you to use and check the cookie. For the record the cookie is stored properly for the affiliate link you shared both in Firefox and Chrome so the issue resides elsewhere

and for that reason I think it would be better to have a look at your site and check the whole referral process. You may provide me temp admin access to your site using my personal email address, george at itthinx dot com.

    Kind regards,

That’s what I thought. I am not using any caching plugins at all on this site. I have the expiration date on the referrals set to 30 days (default). I am trying to verify cookies, but for some reason the dev tools aren’t loading. https://mywaterhairsolution.com/welcome/?affiliates=25

  5. Hi Lori,

Thanks for using our affiliate marketing tool on your site as a long-term customer, we appreciate it.

FYI, the basic flow for a referral to be successfully recorded is:
    1. A potential customer follows an affiliate link, aka a link containing the affiliate URL parameter with a valid affiliate id ie ?affiliate=12345.
    2. An affiliate cookie is stored in the customer’s browser containing that affiliate id.
    3. Once the customer decides to place an order, a referral will be recorded for the affiliate with id 12345 as long as the cookie is still stored in the browser.

The affiliate cookie can be stored as long as the potential customer has followed at least one link containing the affiliate URL parameter and the affiliate id and can lead to a referral for as long as it exists on the customer’s browser.
Possible reasons why this might fail is when the cookie expires after a set amount of time or if the session has ended. This depends on your settings for the cookie found in Affiliates > Settings > Referrals (tab). Also, there are caching plugins which are known to reject some URL parameters and if this is the case then you might find additional info in our Troubleshooting section.

You can test this if you follow an affiliate link in your browser and then check the developer tools to find out if the cookie is in place like the screenshot below using my test installation in Chrome.
