Pretty Links do not work, please help to fix it
—
by
Hello, I have bought and installed Affiliates by Username plugin specifically to show affiliate links in this format:
http://www.example.com/affiliates/billy
It appears pretty links are not working. Please advise how to get them to work.

Any ideas on how to get this to work with “WordPress SEO” plugin? I have a lot of time invested in setting up the SEO? 🙁
Hi Dale,
By “this” I assume you mean pretty links? Pretty affiliate links have been deprecated, see also this comment. Please use parameter based URLs instead.
Turns out mine was doing the same thing. Redirecting to 404. It turned out to be conflict with “wordpress SEO” plugin. To get it to work I would have to deactivate wordpress seo then deactivate affiliate pro plugin and reactivate.
Hi,
As was mentioned to me in another thread (http://www.itthinx.com/topic/affiliate-pretty-links-getting-404-not-found/) the pretty links have been deprecated.
What would be the new process for achieving links with usernames that look like:
website.com/affiliates/user
instead of
website.com/affiliates/?=user
?
Thanks ahead of time!
Hi Lindsay, there is no “new process” to achieve links like that, but you can try using rewrite rules that map those URLs to affiliate links – see URL Rewriting Guide.
Another questions, what’s a shortcode to print Affiliate Username on affiliate area page? Shortcode [affiliates_id] retrieves system assigned ID, not the username.
Example of use: Hello “Affiliate Name”
Hi,
you can use [affiliates_affiliate_profile /] shortcode. If you need to show as plain text, maybe User Meta Shortcodes plugin can help you.
cheers
Hi, I found 4 plugins that cause this problem with pretty links:
FB Tab Manager
Google XML Sitemaps
Testimonials
Wordpress SEO
Is there anything you can do to make the Affiliate plugin compatible with other plugins?
The best approach to this is to enable debugging and try the pretty links with each one enabled individually and check the debug log in
wp-content/debug.log
– once we have more clues to what happens with each one, it will be easier to help finding out the exact cause and if there is a solution. One note on that though, I would actually recommend to *not* use pretty links at all in such a case, there have been instances where pretty links would not work or intermittently and using normal affiliate links with the URL parameter would be preferable in any case.Ok, I just emailed. Thanks!
Hi,
It really looks like there is a conflict with another plugin.
What I suggest is to do the following:
1) Deactivate all plugins except the following to start with a minimal basic setup based on what has already been proven to work (probably SEO or “Pretty Links” plugin generate the conflict)
2) activate other desired plugins one by one, after activating each one, verify the affiliate link.
cheers
Thank you Antonio! I tried it several times. Check/Uncheck “Redirect” -> Save. Settings – Permalinks – Save Changes. But still cannot get pretty links to work. Can I email you the login details so you can have a look?
Hi,
please send it to support at itthinx dot com (please indicate this topic in the email).
cheers
Hi Antonio, thank you for your reply. I did try changing URL parameter name from affiliates to partners, consultants, elite and even _. Still not working.
Any ideas are appreciated.
I use Affiliates by Username plugin with Affiliates WooCommerce Integration Light and Affiliate plugin
Hi,
Please try:
– On Affiliates->Options select if not selected or vice versa “Redirect”.
If this doesn’t work, try on Settings->Permalinks “save changes” to regenerate htaccess file.
cheers
Hi,
maybe a conflict between the Affiliate URL parameter name (in Affiliates->Options) and another page prefix. Please try changing this parameter name to another.
cheers
