Itthinx groups plugin – wp/php/sql compatibility

We have been long-time users of the Ithinx Groups plugin and have always relied on its legacy functionality.
Our setup was as follows:

Ithinx Groups Plugin: Version 2.16.2
PHP: Version 7.4
WordPress: Version 6.0.2
Recently, we undertook an upgrade of both WordPress and PHP, as well as the plugin, to the following versions:
Ithinx Groups Plugin: Version 3.2.1
PHP: Version 8.2
WordPress: Version 6.6

Following the upgrade, we have encountered significant performance issues in the WordPress admin area for non-admin accounts.

Specifically, the “All Pages” and “Edit Pages” sections become unresponsive and eventually time out after a long delay.

Given our reliance on the legacy functionality, we would like to request a solution that does not involve switching to the latest functionality.
Any guidance or patches that address the performance issues without requiring a functionality switch would be greatly appreciated.

Can you please let us know how we can resolve this.

  1. Hi Francis,

Welcome to our support forum and many thanks for mentioning the details on your setup after the updates.
Would you mind mentioning as well what other hints you might have on this issue? Is there anything logged in your debug.log when the timeout occurs?
The issue based on your description above, relates to insufficient resources available, but a thorough review of your debug.log could provide valuable pointers on this case, especially since we haven’t heard of similar issues with Groups plugin. You may provide us with a copy of your debug.log here, or directly to my personal email, george at itthinx dot com.

As for the legacy restriction model based on capabilities even if it’s not deprecated, you are recommended to switch to the latest approach based on groups restrictions. We also keep a migration guide describing the necessary actions for that switch. Please have a look at https://docs.itthinx.com/document/groups/migration-guide/

    Kind regards,
    George
