Is there a way to block certain countries

Hello fellas,

I’m thinking about renewing my license but was wondering if there was a way to block certain countries from counting.

I’m going to use the Pay Per Visit setup.

Thanks!

  1. Hi Brennen,

The best way to do this would be by rejecting referrals for the IPs you choose. If you go to Affiliates > Affiliates & Referrals and choose to Expand Hits you can see the IPs where these hits come from. Based on that you can then select the Referral to reject under Affiliates > Referrals.

  2. Thanks for your response.

I’m not looking to block all traffic from other countries. Just the referral traffic since I’m paying per visit. So me altering htaccess is not a good idea.

So my next question is, say I see some traffic coming in from unscrupulous IP addresses, how easy would it be through the dashboard to block and instantly reject all traffic coming in from that IP?

    Thanks!

  3. Hi Brennen,

This can be done in server level, with .htaccess and perhaps robots.txt by blocking visits for specific IP ranges that match these countries. Other tools like Google Analytics and similar used to support these options, but I think it’s better if you check them in person.

The purpose of Affiliates plugin is to measure statistics in order to give a more thorough view of your performance rate, incoming traffic vs referrals recorded. In general I would recommend either blocking specific visits or allow everyone. If you just disregard visits this would result in incorrect statistics for your site in general.

    Kind Regards,
    George
