How to assign permissions for each group administrator
—
by
Hello everyone!
I have been looking for a wordpress plugin for several weeks that allows you to create user groups. and I have found this plugin “Groups” which I am finding very interesting and I would like to install it on my WordPress site. I have also seen that it has some addons that interest me a lot and I will surely buy.
However, I have been studying the documentation to know the operation and configuration of the plugin, and I have doubts regarding two configurations that I would like to do and I have not found information about it.
On the one hand, I would like to know if the “Legacy Settings” feature can be disabled and how to do it, because I can’t find a way to do it.
On the other hand, I would also like to know if with this plugin it is possible to create a hierarchy like the one shown below:
My intention is to create different individual groups (Group 1, 2 and 3) where each of them will have an administrator who will manage their own group (Group 1) and will not be able to access or manage the other groups (Group 2, 3…) . And I want to give power to the administrator of each group so that he can add or delete users to his group and assign them to a subgroup that will have a series of pre-established permissions, or on the contrary, remove him from the subgroup.
I don’t know if I explained myself well, I hope so.
I would very much like to know that these configurations that I am looking for can be made to buy the plugin.
Thanks!

Hi Kevin,
Welcome to our support forum and many thanks for using our content restriction tool, it’s always nice to hear that users appreciate the power and features behind our tool.
Regarding the Legacy options if you have been using Groups 1.x version then you can complete the migration from capability-based model to group-based model and safely disable the option. More information on migration can be found in the documentation in case you missed that part.

However, since you’re using a new installation of Groups then the option should be disabled by default and if you wish the option to be completely hidden then you can use the following constant in wp-config.php:
define( 'GROUPS_LEGACY_ENABLE', false );
define( 'GROUPS_SHOW_LEGACY_SETTINGS', false );
What you describe in your second point is pretty straight forward and as an idea is something included in our plans for a future version of Groups plugin. Your use case even if not supported at the moment would be the next step for Groups either for the community edition or via a new premium edition. Please allow me to forward your request to our team for further investigation.
Kind regards,
George
