Error code 500 when using “notify the admin” and plugin “post smtp” for notification

WordPress: 6.7.2
Groups: 3.4.2
Groups File Access: 2.7.0

Hello Support,
in general the worrdpress notification works fine with PlugIn “Post SMTP” – System as well as Conact Form 7.
As soon as I activate “Notify the admin” in Groups File Access and I use any download link for downloading a file, I get an error message 500 from server. If I deactivate this option, I am able to download files…

Any hint here?
Thank you and best regards,
Jacqueline

  1. Hi Jacqueline,

    Welcome to our support forum for Groups and Groups File Access plugins.

    According to your description, I’m assuming that Post SMTP plugin doesn’t override the notification sending process used by Groups File Access. Each plugin that supports sending email notifications, uses wp_mail() WordPress Core function, or implements the sending process via SMTP and a dedicated server set for that purpose. Also, especially when the latter applies, it should override any other wp_mail() instances included, that’s why I mentioned that Post SMTP fails to override the default option used in Groups File Access.
    However, first I would recommend you to enable WP debugging with these options:

    define( 'WP_DEBUG', true );
    define( 'WP_DEBUG_LOG', true );
    define( 'WP_DEBUG_DISPLAY', false );

    and then share with us the contents of your wp-content/debug.log when the error 500 occurs. You may send a copy of your debug.log to george at itthinx dot com.
    This way we can have a better view on the details included with the error you get.

    Kind regards,
    George
