Direct link to checkout for a product with affiliate tracking?

Hi

It is possible to put a link directly to the checkout for a specific product, thereby bypassing all the product information and the rest of the website, and just making the fastest route to complete a purchase.

Here is an example on my site for this direct to checkout for a specific product link:
https://www.goldlighttherapy.com/?add-to-cart=1346

I want to enable this functionality for affiliates, so that they could create an affiliate link for the same purpose, like this:
https://www.goldlighttherapy.com/?add-to-cart=1346?affiliate=2

But does this work? Will it really track the affiliates commission and stats?

Thank you
Barnaby

  1. Hi Barnaby,

Try using a default theme like twentyfifteen for example and after clicking on the link check your browser cookies for a cookie named wp_affiliates, so that we can narrow down the situation.

  2. Hi George

I’ve tried this several more times, and the code just won’t work to track the affiliates sale.

You can see the tracking code here with the add to cart.
The add to cart works fine, and the order goes through, but no affiliate commissions are recorded.

What else could be done to get this working?
Is it actually possible to get it to work?

You can see how I’ve explained how to do this to affiliates here:

    Thank you

  3. Hi Barnaby,

In my test installation, although it doesn’t go to checkout, the product is added to the basket and the correct affiliate id is stored.

Please have a look in your activated plugins in case there is a setting blocking URL parameters.

    Cheers,
    George

  4. My affiliate id is actually like this:
    https://www.goldlighttherapy.com/?add-to-cart=1346&id=2

So I’m swapping “affiliate” for “id”.

But when I use your link, the way you’ve got, it’s not tracking the affiliate.
When I go to affiliate stats, it does not show any additional clicks after using that link above, so I presume it is not working.

Can you please confirm if it really is tracking the affiliate clicks?

    Thank you
    Barnaby

  5. Hi Barnaby,

You can try using it like this:
    https://www.goldlighttherapy.com/?add-to-cart=1346&affiliate=2
each url parameter is separated with an ‘&’.
Instead of this you can use the shortcode [affiliates_generate_url], or the shortcode [affiliates_url].

    Kind regards,
    George
