Affiliate /Registration Profile

Hi Kento,

1) When an affiliate signs up can their ‘website url’, the one they will be placing the links on, be collected?

2) Can their Paypal email address also be collected? Rather than them having to go into ‘profile’ again.

3) Can they have an option to input their preferred password at registration?

4) Where can their existing password be updated?

5) I am a little confused. Is an affiliate registration the same as a WP user?
I followed the instructions here: https://www.itthinx.com/documentation/affiliates/setting-up-affiliate-resources/affiliate-registration-forms-and-pages/. Does ‘Settings/General/Any one can register’ need to be checked for an affiliate to be allowed to join?

The problem with this is:
a) I am getting lots of fake registrations
b) The ‘user’ can see the back end of admin which I do not want. They have access to the notices that say which plugins need to be updated etc.

6) We have in our affiliate terms the following phrase “You will be paid your commissions, at such time as your account balance is $X or more. ”
Where can I control this please?

Many thanks!

  1. Just checking you received my last message?

    1. Yes, I had already posted a reply indicating that and a question to clarify above.

  2. Hi Kento,

Thank you for your detailed responses.

I was able to resolve them except these ones:

I was unable to find the short code that:
    2) collects their Paypal email address on
    4) enables the existing password to be updated

    on the following link:
    http://www.itthinx.com/documentation/affiliates/shortcodes/

5b) I have all the permissions as you suggested but the affiliate can see the update alerts.

    6) What I was referring to here was, is there an automatic control for the threshold release in admin? or is it done manually? rather than locating the agreement.

    Many thanks.

    1. Hi,

On #2 you will find the profile shortcode and options including the email for PayPal on http://www.itthinx.com/documentation/affiliates/setting-up-affiliate-resources/setting-up-an-affiliate-profile-page/[affiliates_affiliate_profile show_attributes="paypal_email" edit_attributes="paypal_email"]

… the same page for #4

For access to their data you should not give them access to the admin area – not even temporary – but you should set up the profile page based on the generated one under Affiliates > Options. I mention that because I think you want to provide them access to stats, right?

  3. Hi Lesley,

#1 Yes they can indicate that, a field is provided on the registration form for that purpose by default.

#2 The email address they provide on registration is taken as the default. If you provide the option on the affiliate area or affiliate profile page, then they can indicate an alternative used for that purpose. See the Shortcodes section for details please.

#3 No, the password is generated.

#4 See the profile shortcodes please (#2).

#5 There is a difference between the affiliate entry and the user account. They can be linked to each other and that’s what happens when a new affiliate signs up through the registration form, but you can also have affiliates without an account (offline affiliates – there are scenarios where that is useful). Regarding the setting, “Anyone can register” is not required as there is a specific option for that under Affiliates > Options.

    … a) You can use https://github.com/itthinx/affiliates-recaptcha
… b) Your permissions are set incorrectly. Do not allow other roles except Administrators to have access to the back end (that is the default). Uncheck all boxes under Affiliates > Options > Permissions except those for the Administrator role. Your affiliates do not need to access the back end, they have the affiliate area which you can further customize if needed for that.

#6 See the [affiliates_registration] shortcode attributes for that (you can indicate the page where the terms are outlined).

I hope that helps you to have a more detailed understanding on how the system works 🙂
