Affiliate code on checkout page

Hi. We would like to give our affiliates simple codes like their last names for customers to use so the affiliate receives credit, but the customer doesn’t get a discount.

I have assigned a coupon code to a specific affiliate and set that coupon discount to zero. This works great, however it is confusing for the user because the input field on the checkout page says “coupon code”. I know I can change that text, but we also use coupon codes for sales, so I don’t want to do that.

Can you recommend a solution?

  1. Hi,

I’d like to suggest using Affiliates by Username instead of coupons for that purpose. I think the concept of a zero discount coupon is rather confusing for customers and rather counterproductive if your affiliates should be able to promote your site by handing our coupons. The very notion of the coupon discount associated to an affiliate makes sense because the affiliate uses it to promote your site and the customer gets a discount for using the affiliate’s coupon. If you take that part away, you also take away the motivation to use the coupon in the first place … if you really want to have the affiliate’s name involved, the closest we have is the plugin I’ve mentioned. It doesn’t work with the affiliate’s last name, it allows to use the affiliate’s username instead of the affiliate ID.

    I hope that helps.

    Cheers

  2. Hi Leah,

You can change the text next to coupon code to something more generic like “enter your code”
You can also change the look of the affiliate coupon to an image containing the code, it is a matter of promotion/merchandising after all since the customer isn’t granted a discount.
You can use banners which is a built-in feature of Affiliates Pro to promote the affiliates’ links.
