Affiliate Bonus On Top of Rate

β€”

by

Hi, there!

Is there a way to add a bonus amount or increase the percentage of a rate if an affiliate hits a sales goal?
Let’s say the sales goal is $500 for the period:

Affiliate earns only 10% commission for total sales of $499. But, will earn either: 15% commission on all $500+ if base requirement met, OR earn 10% on the $499 amount, then 15% for anything over $500.
I.E.
>= $499 | 10% + <= $500 | 15% (they get 10% on the first $499 + a bonus of 15% on anything $500 or more)
OR
<=$500 | 15% (if they hit $500, they get 15% for the total amount of referrals)

Thoughts on that?

Thanks so much!

  1. Hello, David,
I’m so glad to hear you’re enjoying the plugin πŸ™‚
Let’s imagine the following scenario, in order to answer your question as clearly as possible:
    1) You have a group, let’s call it Group10. Its members will receive a 10% commission on their affiliate referrals.
    2) Similarly, you have another group, Group15, that has its Rate set to 15% for its members.
    3) You have a user, let’s call him Joe, he is an affiliate.
Working with the above scheme would look like:
    1) You make Joe a member of Group10, so he receives 10% commission on his referrals.
    2) Joe makes $500 in one month, you notice this and you move him to the Group15.
From the moment that you changed Joe’s group, he will receive the commission rate associated with the new group and all referrals credited to him, after he moved groups, will grant him 15%. Referrals made while he was still in the Group10 will remain unchanged – they’d still grant a 10%.
The reason why I’m going into such detail is that I want to emphasize on the part where Joe starts getting the higher rate after you’ve added him to the higher-rate group – e.g., he could have made $600 by the time you see his referrals and move him to the Group15, so you need to keep a close look on your affiliates earnings.

    Cheers,
    Denitsa

    1. Ok, Denitsa.

Thank you so very much for the very clear details and the scenario! That makes perfect sense to me, and I very much appreciate the time you put into getting me a very thorough answer and response.

      All set, thank you!

      1. Yay, you’re very welcome, always happy to help! πŸ™‚

        1. πŸ™‚ LAST question for now: Is it possible to pay out affiliates with the payment file using Authorize.net, instead of PayPal?

          Thanks!!!

          1. Hmm, reading through Authorize.net’s Upload Transaction File Guide (I found it here -> https://www.authorize.net/content/dam/authorize/documents/uploadguide.pdf), it seems that they require an altogether different template for the file format (that is, different from Paypal’s), so the Mass Payment file won’t work for sure.
Glad to receive all your questions! πŸ™‚
            Cheers,
            Denitsa

  2. I just thought of another question: If a 10% group affiliate is transferred to a 15% group after events have been logged, will all his/her 10% referrals be automatically updated to 15%, or only the “new events/referrals?

I think we could work with a 10% rate under 500, and 15% rate 500+; just want to make sure that all those >500 sales would carry over to the 15% group.

    Thanks so much!

  3. Hi, Denista.

That seems like a reasonable solution, and thank you for the clear instructions.
Thank you so very much, and loving the plugin.

    Cheers!

  4. Hello,
You desired setup could be achieved to an extent by using the free Groups plugin.
    Download page: https://wordpress.org/plugins/groups/
    Documentation page: http://docs.itthinx.com/document/groups/
    With it, you can:
    1) Create a group and set it to receive a 10% commission, by going to Affiliates > Rates and creating a new rate for the group.
    2) Create another group, like above, and set a separate rate for it, so that the members receive 15% commission instead.

You will have to keep an eye on your affiliates though, as assigning them to the higher rate group won’t be automatic. Once your desired threshold is achieved by a certain affiliate (e.g., they make more than $500 in one month), go to Users > All users, select the affiliate, remove him from his current group and add him to the next group.

It’s possible to automate it, but this would require a customized handler. It could be implemented like this:

    1. When a referral is accepted, calculate the total sum for referred orders from this affiliate.
    2. If the total exceeds the threshold for the current group, assign the user accordingly to the higher-rate group.

    Cheers,
    Denitsa
