Affilates not working after trafic surge.

Affiliates pro quit working for a specific user. It will track sales for other users but not this one. It quit working after a surge of traffic (30,000 users in a few hours) from that user. The server bogged down I don’t think it totally crashed. Then the next day it credited one sale. Now I test and it will not grant a sale to that user.
It works for other users but not him.
Could you provide some steps to trouble shoot or resolve the issue. I need the plugin to work if possible.

Hi Guy,
This traffic surge could have resulted in resource exhaustion of your server. If this traffic occurred only from one affiliate, then it could result in not tracking sales for that specific affiliate. In this occasion though, there should be something recorded in your server log files.
Depending on what you find logged in your server, you should act accordingly. For example, PHP memory has exhausted which resulted in a 500 HTTP error.
Apart from server logs, i think you should also enable WP debugging, repeat your tests and check your debug.log file for possible issues with your WP installation in general.
Also, if there wasn’t a server failure, then this traffic should also be recorded at Affiliates > Visits & Referrals. You can filter the results for that specific affiliate.
The simplest solution would be to delete that affiliate and re-add him. But since sales haven’t been tracked after a traffic surge, i think you should first check my previous suggestions, which might be handy for similar issues in the future.
To enable debugging, edit your wp-config.php file and replace the following line:
define(‘WP_DEBUG’, false );
with these lines:
define(‘WP_DEBUG’, true );
define(‘WP_DEBUG_LOG’, true );
after that, add a file named debug.log under your wp-content folder.
Kind regards,
George
