Administrator Notification upon File Download

When a member of a Group downloads a file from my website, I would like to receive a notification by email. How can I set that up?

Hi George, I have asked the guy who manages my website to look into this. Let’s give him a few days. If he can’t solve the problem, I will give you temporary admin access. Thanks again for all your help with this. Best, Richard

  3. You’re welcome Richard.

Since you haven’t received a notification after I downloaded the file indicated, I think it’s better if we can monitor this process from an administrator point of view this time.
Can you please provide us with temporary admin access to your site or a staging version, if it runs live at the moment. You may create this account using my own email mentioned in my previous reply and also make sure to enable WP debugging.
BTW, many thanks for your offer to a free subscription, much appreciated.

    Kind regards,
    George

Thanks for doing this, George. When you downloaded the file, I should have received a notification. But I did not. I used to. I would like to receive them again. Any more suggestions on what I should do to make that happen?

Up until January 3rd this year, I used to receive email notifications when someone downloaded a file. The emails were sent to me from this email address: wordpress@richardduncaneconomics.com

Here’s what the notifications used to look like (this was the last one I received):

“The file /home/ichardd2/public_html/wp-content/uploads/groups-file-access/Apple-On-Device-AI-December-14-2023.pdf with ID 243 has been accessed through https://richardduncaneconomics.com?gfid=243 via https://richardduncaneconomics.com/macro-watch/ at [\’https://richardduncaneconomics.com\’]Richard Duncan Economics by the user mohammad.syahrial with ID 2763 via the IP address 202.59.164.210 at 2024-01-03 07:09:50 GMT. Server IP address 162.241.181.69.

This is an automated confirmation message produced by the Groups File Access system.”

Thanks for your help with this. By the way, if you are interested in macroeconomics and the financial markets, you are welcome to keep the free subscription to Macro Watch. If so, check out the video index tab in the menu bar and watch some of the videos that interest you. If not, I completely understand.

    Richard

  5. Ok, I did follow the process and downloaded one of the pdf files.

Is there something else I should do next?

    Cheers

  6. Sure Richard, let me have another look!

    Cheers

    Hey George,

I’m sorry the coupon had reached its usage limit. I just increased the limit by a large number. Would you mind trying again?

    Thanks!

    Richard

  8. Hi Richard,

You’re welcome. I tried to complete the subscription process but wasn’t able to because the coupon has reached its usage limit.
At this point I think it would be better if you provide us with temporary admin access to your site or a staging version, if it runs live at the moment. You may create this account using my own email mentioned in my previous reply and also make sure to enable WP debugging.

    Kind regards,
    George

    Hi George,

Thank you very much for your ongoing support.

The people who are entitled to download files from my website are paying subscribers to my video-newsletter, Macro Watch.

Please follow the instructions below to subscribe to Macro Watch for free. I’m not sure if you want to do that or not. If you don’t, I understand.

But, if you do, after you subscribe, go to the Macro Watch video page. There, under each video, you will find a link that says “Download charts”. Click on that and a PDF file will be sent to your email address. The PDF file contains the charts from my Macro Watch video presentations.

When someone downloads one of these files, I used to receive a notification to my email address. But I no longer do. I am trying to make that happen again so that I am notified when someone downloads these files.

Thanks for your help with this. Here are the instructions for a free subscription to Macro Watch:

For a free subscription to Macro Watch, click on the following link:

    http://www.richardduncaneconomics.com/product/macro-watch/

Click on the orange “Subscribe Now” button. (Ignore the “$500/year”. This is a free subscription.)

When you do, it will ask, “Have a coupon? Click here to enter your code”

    Click on that.

    Your coupon code is: speaker

Enter that coupon code and hit the “Apply Coupon” button.

Next, fill in your name, state and country. (This just lets me know in which part of the world you live.)

Next, create an account password. You will use your email address and this password to log in to Macro Watch every time you visit this site.

Then, tick the “I’ve read and accept the terms and conditions” box.

    Hit: “Subscribe Now”.

That’s it. On the right side of your screen, under “Macro Watch Video Section”, you should see:

“You are currently signed in. You can go to the Macro Watch Video section with the button below.”

Click on that “Watch Videos” tab and you will be taken to the Videos page, where you will find links to approximately 100 hours of videos that you can begin watching immediately. A new video will be uploaded every two weeks or so.

You will immediately receive an email confirming that you have subscribed. If you do not, please check your spam folder.

I sincerely hope that you find Macro Watch interesting and useful. If you have any questions about signing in or about the content of the Macro Watch videos, please send me an email and ask. My email address is: rduncan35@hotmail.com

    With best regards,

    Richard

  10. Hey Richard,

You’re welcome! This means that your site can send email in general? Can you please add myself as a new user to your site with the email address george at itthinx dot com?

    Cheers

  11. Hey Richard,

Please try and download one or more files using a user account other than the admin’s. It is quite possible that you’re trying to send an email and the from, to addresses are the same, which can classify the email as SPAM.

Other than this check that your site can indeed send emails and you haven’t reached any outgoing limit usually set by the hosting server.

    Kind regards,
    George

      Hey George,

Thanks for that suggestion. I tried that. I still did not receive a notification. Do you have any other things I should try?

      Thanks,
      Richard

  12. Hi Richard,

Welcome to our support channel for Groups File Access addon.

You can enable admin notifications for file downloads if you go to Groups > File Access, under Notifications section.
All the details for this option are described in the documentation page here:
    https://docs.itthinx.com/document/groups-file-access/file-access/
    under Notifications section.

    Kind regards,
    George

      Hi itthinx,

Thank you for replying to my question.

I followed your instructions and went to Groups > File Access, under Notifications section. The admin notifications for file downloads was already enabled (the box was ticked) and it had my correct email address.

However, when I tested it by downloading some files, I did not receive a notification.

Any ideas on what could be wrong? I used to receive these notifications in the past.

      Thanks for your help.

      Richard
