404 Error – Page not found with pretty URLs
—
by
Hi there,
I posted this yesterday and thought I had resolved it, but it keeps happening.
Basically, my affiliate links with the “ugly” format (numbers) work no problem, but the “pretty links” created with Affiliates by Username keep failing, giving me a “404 – Page not found” error.
For example, this affiliate link works: http://www.gematria.co.uk/wordpress?affiliates=8
but
this one (its “pretty” version) doesn’t: http://www.gematria.co.uk/wordpress/health/mateas
So I seem to have pinpointed the failure somewhere along the line of the ugly to pretty URL conversion…
I’ve also realised that if I change the affiliate URL parameter to something else (for example, from “health” to “affiliates”) and save it, it works for a while, then stops working again…
I’ve pasted my affiliate page code here: http://pastebin.com/7J0YtWBR. Could you please have a look and let me know if I’m doing something really silly?
Thank you in advance of your help!
Miguel

Hi Miguel,
I changed the URL parameter to foobar and tested, it worked with that. Then changed it back to health and it’s working as well.
On some setups the pretty affiliate links can be problematic when there are other plugins using similar URL or a page’s slug uses the affiliate URL parameter as part of its URL.
Make sure that it keeps working, otherwise try to change it from health to something else to make sure there is no conflict. Also check the rewrite rules for the server and for WordPress in case there’s a conflict originating from those.
Hi,
right now it seems to work fine.
If it happens again, try disabling SEO plugin (at least the permalinks option).
cheers
Hi,
it seems a problem with cache, please try to disable plugins relating to cache.
If it doesn’t work, you can send us dashboard admin access to support at itthinx dot com and we’ll have a look (please indicate this topic in the email).
cheers
